Fierce Pose—Utkatasana

About the pose: Fierce Pose is well named as it requires a lot of energy and stamina. Being fierce can be useful in life while attempting to discover your true nature.

Instructions: From Mountain Pose, bring your big toes together and heels slightly apart. Inhale to prepare, then exhale and sink down and touch the floor. Sit way back, letting your hips move behind you. Lift your core up and then your torso and arms (see figure 6.25). If your shoulders are tight, move your arms down to your hips or bend your elbows. You can also rise up higher and move your arms back.
